Why I Quit My Job! (Again) — And What I’ve Finally Learned About Happiness

A woman in a pink suit passionately declares, 'I quit!' in a dramatic and expressive manner.

If you’ve been following my journey, you might remember when I quit a job back in 2021. (If not, you can catch up here).

Well… it happened again.

This time, the decision wasn’t just about the job — it was about my mental health. It was about honoring the version of me that refuses to suffer just to collect a paycheck.

A woman with curly hair sitting at a desk, looking stressed while holding her head. A laptop with the text 'peace = pressure' is in front of her, along with a cup of coffee and various books.

I thought hitting a certain salary would make me happy. It didn’t.

I used to believe there was a magic number — a salary that would make the stress, the burnout, the Sunday scaries all feel “worth it.” And I’m not alone — a 2010 Harvard study backs this up. But here’s the thing: I hit that number, and I still wasn’t happy.

In fact, I was drained. Spiritually, emotionally, physically.
I’d wake up exhausted, drag myself through the day, and collapse at night. I could see it in my face. In my posture. In my energy.
I didn’t recognize the woman in the mirror — and not in a poetic, “I’m evolving” way. I looked tired. Disconnected. Uninspired.

And here’s how I knew it was time to walk away…

I mentally checked out long before I gave notice.

I didn’t care about the work anymore. And honestly? That scared me.
Because I’m someone who wants to care. I want to be excellent. But I was so overwhelmed that I couldn’t even fake engagement.

A woman with curly hair and a bun, wearing a white blouse, is confidently stating, 'I quit.'

Imagine feeling like you’re drowning in a lake and your team is consistently screaming, “You’re doing great!” Meanwhile, you’re silently screaming, “I’m not okay!” That was how I felt.
Every “solution” thrown my way felt like it was hitting me in the face instead of helping me grab hold.

The only time I felt absolute peace was right before bed.

At night, I’d curl up with a self-help audiobook and escape. That was the only time my nervous system could exhale.
And it made me ask:
What actually makes me happy? What feeds my soul?

A woman in a patterned jacket, with long dark hair, appears contemplative while speaking, surrounded by light and greenery. The text overlay reads, 'Just focus on what makes you you.'

Here’s what I discovered…

What Actually Makes Me Happy (A Real Self-Discovery List):

  • Being self-aware
  • Eating clean & mindfully
  • Meditating intentionally
  • Learning, reading, and writing
  • Creating and connecting
  • Feeling inspired and expansive
  • Laughing, dreaming, being still
  • Listening to Abraham Hicks
  • Living with intention, not obligation

I remember calling out sick on Fridays — for an entire month. And I stopped feeling guilty. Because by Thursday, I had given everything I had. Showing up each day required everything from me.
And when I really understood that a life of ease and peace is my birthright — not a reward I have to earn through struggle — I stopped apologizing.

Working that job became a betrayal of self.

A woman with a bob hairstyle is speaking assertively and looking directly at the camera, expressing her desire to protect her energy.

I believed in the mission. The work was meaningful. But the environment? Not for me.
It was too fast-paced. Overstimulating. And even in a remote setting, I was burnt out beyond repair.
